I just saw 'Monet to Matisse' a few months ago and there were some pretty impressive pieces for being in Wichita. Not world class art, in my opinion, but the traveling shows we get are interesting. We have Final Friday art shows on the last Friday of every month and a lot of places participate in that, and the Wichita Art Museum is currently free on Saturdays. Delano is a pretty nice area too. If it wasn't for the beautiful storm season I don't know how I would justify living in Kansas honestly, lol. My favorite tradition here is sitting on my front porch and watching the thunderstorms roll through.
There's one or maybe two good versions of each cuisine. The real problem is a lack of quantity. Then you can easily drive back downtown and get ramen or something to not feel quite so Midwest.It's not that we're necessarily missing a cuisine, although Wichita's Italian is pretty sad. Super fun though and small town. Just the one main street with carnival rides and fried food. Oh, and it will sound pretty down home but maybe my favorite thing to do is go to the Valley Center Fall Festival.
I visited there thinking.mid-western city in Nebraska.it's not going to blow me away. And it's the same issue with nearly everything else. Those are my options for hip places that are unique to Wichita and places I'd want to take a newcomer and boast about my city. Four years ago I'd say the Anchor, but their quality has degraded so much I can't go there anymore. Do I want to go a hip restaurant that has a unique menu? Ok, well.I can go to Public or Monarch.
For starters, we have the midwest (frugal) mindset, which colors our opinions about what restaurants are affordable, so we might not be willing to try the higher-priced places. There's an endless amount of chain restaurants opening up in suburbia, but that's the opposite of "foodie."You may not be getting an accurate impression of the food from us locals. How many restaurants opened in our main entertainment district in the last 2 years? I can think of one: Fredo's, which just opened. I'm just reiterating that it's far from being a "foodie" city, and I find myself having to go to the same spots over and over.

So yummy)
